Beef Bowls

While living in Miami I had tried my very first beef bowl and it blew my mind. I just had to make some. So I will be attempting to recreate a traditional beef bowl today.

Here are the ingredients needed for this recipe:

  • 5oz. thinly sliced beef (I will be using veal, didn’t slice it thin enough)
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/4 oz. (2 tsp.) ginger root, grated
  • 2 servings of rice
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. sake
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/4 cups hot water

Step 1: In a large pan, add in the onion and hot water and bring to a boil.

Step 2: Allow to boil for 7 minutes, or until the onion is soft.

Step 3: Add the sake, sugar, salt, soy sauce, ginger and beef; stir, cover, and boil for 8-10 minutes over medium heat.

Step 4: Taste and add more sugar and/or soy sauce if needed.

Step 5: Serve over the steamed rice.

Notes: Leftover broth can be used for dipping.

Juicy Burgers

After having a quick burger at Five Guys Burgers and Fries I really began craving for a burger. Now I’ve never made a burger before, so this will be something new to learn. I’ve been watching some cooking shows and daytime shows on burgers for the last few days and I think I finally figured out how to make a decent burger.

Here are the ingredients needed for this recipe:

  • 1 lb. fresh ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. ground pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. paprika
  • 1 cup diced onion

Step 1: In a large bowl, add all the ingredients.

Step 2: Mix the ingredients until combined, but don’t over mix the ground beef.

Step 3: Dived the ground beef into 4 portions and mold them into a round patty.

Step 4: In a preheated large pan over medium heat, add the patties and cook burgers until well browned, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 5: Flip burgers and cook until browned on the outside and no longer pink on the inside; about 3-4 minutes.(Can add cheese right after flipping the burger, and cover to allow the steam to melt the cheese.)

Step 7: Serve on hamburger buns.

Toppings:

  • Chopped lettuce
  • Tomato slices
  • Onion slices
  • Ketchup
  • Yellow mustard
  • Mayonnaise
  • Pickles
  • Relish
  • BBQ sauce
  • Etc.

Beef with Mushrooms

I have been tasked to make dinner for my mom tonight. I have been racking my brain for some sort of recipe that my mom would like to eat. She shot down pasta dishes, cream sauces, and any American-style of food. The only thing she told me was to use the mushrooms in the refrigerator. So I figured out a stir fry beef dish to go with it.

Here are the ingredients needed for this recipe:

  • 1-1/2 lb. flank steak, thinly sliced strips ( I will be using 1/4 lb)
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp. fresh ginger, minced
  • 4 Tbsp. oyster sauce
  • 4 Tbsp. soy sauce
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
  • 4 tsp. cornstarch
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 Tbsp. sake (optional)
  • 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 cup fresh mushrooms, thinly sliced (I will be using 5 cups)
  • 1/2 onion, thinly sliced

Step 1: In a medium bowl combine the garlic, ginger, oyster sauce, soy sauce, sugar, salt, pepper, water, sake, and cornstarch. Mix well.

Step 2: Add flank steak and marinade for at least 30 minutes.

Step 3: Heat a large saucepan or wok over medium high heat.

Step 4: Add oil.

Step 5: Remove steak slices from the marinade with a slotted spoon or tongs, reserve the marinade, and place into the pan and stir fry until the steak is fully cooked, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 6: Remove from the pan; set aside.

Step 7: Add a little more oil to the pan if necessary and add mushrooms and onion.

Step 8: Stir fry for 3-4 minutes.

Step 9: Add the marinade liquid to the pan and bring to a boil.

Step 10: Reduce heat and simmer for 30 seconds.

Step 11: Return steak to the pan and simmer until heated through.

Hotdogs and Pasta

Today I didn’t really feel like making a time consuming meal. Instead I found a jar of pasta sauce and some hotdogs in the refrigerator and decided to make them together. This recipe can use any brand of pasta sauce, but it has to be a red sauce of some sort. I prefer Prego because it’s a sweeter flavor sauce.

Here are the ingredients needed for this recipe:

  • 1 (24 oz) bottle of pasta sauce (I will be using Prego’s Chunky Garden: Tomato, Onion, and Garlic)
  • 1 lb of pasta (spaghetti for this)
  • 1 medium onion (sliced)
  • 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves of garlic (minced)
  • 5 hotdogs (cut into bite sizes)

Step 1: In a large pot, heat the oil and add the onions

Step 2: Cook the onions until they are caramelized

Step 3: While onions are caramelizing, boil the pasta for 10-12 minutes or until al dente and then drain

Step 4: Add the garlic and cook till aromatic

Step 5: Add the pasta sauce and hotdogs and cook until the hotdogs are fully cooked

Step 6: Place the cooked and drained pasta into the hot sauce and toss together.

Step 7: Serve hot.
